Forbidden induced bipartite graphs

چکیده

Given a fixed bipartite graph H, we study the asymptotic speed of growth of the number of bipartite graphs on n vertices which do not contain an induced copy of H. Whenever H contains either a cycle or the bipartite complement of a cycle, the speed of growth is 2Ω(n 6 5 ). For every other bipartite graph except the path on seven vertices, we are able to find both upper and lower bounds of the form ncn+o(n). In many cases we are able to determine the correct value of c.

An On-line Competitive Algorithm for Coloring P_8 -free Bipartite Graphs

The existence of an on-line competitive algorithm for coloring bipartite graphs remains a tantalizing open problem. So far there are only partial positive results for bipartite graphs with certain small forbidden graphs as induced subgraphs, in particular for P7-free bipartite graphs. We propose a new on-line competitive coloring algorithm for P8-free bipartite graphs. Our proof technique impro...

An attractive class of bipartite graphs

In this paper we propose a structural characterization for a class of bipartite graphs defined by two forbidden induced subgraphs. We show that the obtained characterization leads to polynomial-time algorithms for several problems that are NP-hard in general bipartite graphs.

The Clique-Width of Bipartite Graphs in Monogenic Classes

In this paper, we provide complete classification of classes of bipartite graphs defined by a single forbidden induced bipartite subgraph with respect to bounded/unbounded clique-width.

Towards a characterization of bipartite switching classes by means of forbidden subgraphs

We investigate which switching classes do not contain a bipartite graph. Our final aim is a characterization by means of a set of critically non-bipartite graphs: they do not have a bipartite switch, but every induced proper subgraph does. In addition to the odd cycles, we list a number of exceptional cases and prove that these are indeed critically non-bipartite. Finally, we give a number of s...

Bipartite minors

We introduce a notion of bipartite minors and prove a bipartite analog of Wagner’s theorem: a bipartite graph is planar if and only if it does not contain K3,3 as a bipartite minor. Similarly, we provide a forbidden minor characterization for outerplanar graphs and forests. We then establish a recursive characterization of bipartite (2, 2)-Laman graphs — a certain family of graphs that contains...

Polar cographs

Polar graphs are a natural extension of some classes of graphs like bipartite graphs, split graphs and complements of bipartite graphs. A graph is (s, k)-polar if there exists a partition A, B of its vertex set such that A induces a complete s-partite graph (i.e., a collection of at most s disjoint stable sets with complete links between all sets) and B a disjoint union of at most k cliques (i....
